IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! FOR US...IT STARTED WITH A PIG...

We were living in a northwest Houston suburban, Cypress, Texas when our daughter, Katarina, joined FFA her freshman year of high school.  She came home with the paperwork to raise rabbits and somehow we got her a market pig, Bandit.  Bandit was a four month project and adventure!

Following the her mourning of Bandit, we got two more market pigs for Katarina to raise for the State Fair of Texas and the county show her sophomore year and a goat for our son, Kaleb.  The goat was a compromise on his request for a spitting pet llama.  Eventually, Kaleb began showing pigs too.  Meanwhile, Katarina convinced us to let raise a steer, Tux.  Nine months of mushed toes, rope burns, eating dirt and lots of learning, Katarina proudly walked Tux into the show ring!

Tux sparked our interest in cattle.  Katarina got another steer to raise.  When Katarina began to approach her junior year she convinced us she should raise a heifer and have a cow calf pair to show her senior year.  After some research we decided Simbrah cattle were the way to go for the Houston area.  We got Katarina and Kaleb each a Simbrah heifer and one for us!  We've enjoyed them so much that one for each of us wasn't enough!  So we added another, then another, then another...

Katarina has long since completed her masters in Ag Sustainability at Sam Houston University.  Kaleb completed his bachelors in Ag at Texas A&M University and is teaching - various high school ag classes. Both continue to stay involved in the breeding and marketing of our cattle.

Here we are now today, still enjoying and growing our herd!
